Saturday, 5/3 and Sunday, 5/4

The Lovett Pool is still not fixed. We will have FutureSwim this afternoon at the Cobb Central Aquatic Center; 520 Fairground Street, Marietta, GA. We will have two sessions. First session is from 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm and the second session is from 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm. Please come to the session that is most convenient for you.

Chris has not been able to secure a pool for tomorrow, so there is no FutureSwim on Sunday, 5/4.

Parking and Entrance Reminders

We are now entering the pool directly onto the pool deck. Before you came in through the glass front doors. Now you will go to the left of the glass doors and turn right when the building ends. The entrance is the second set of doors on the right. You will go through another set of doors right onto the pool deck.

The school also wants us parking in the parking deck as many times there are activities going on at the school.

We will not begin Wed. swimming until January as our coaches have conflicting schedules right now. The extra hour on Sunday is still being considered to run Oct. - Dec. until it would switch to Wed. Will let you know before the first practice in Oct. I will be sending out a form for you to indicate you interest at this time.

I have goggles for sale at $15.00. The are all the Speedo Vanguisher style (the only style we have found that works well) in Women's, Men's and Jr,.

VERY IMPORTANT

Please remember to sign your swimmer/s in when you arrive.  I track attendance over time each year to determine when the times are the heaviest so that I can determine if and when I need to add additional pool time. If your swimmers name is not listed, please hand write it at the bottom.  Make sure the time you attended is noted.

First Meet - Spooky Splash - Mark your Calendar

Will have our first meet on Sat. Oct. 26th from 4:30-6:30. Everyone is encouraged to attend. We also have a Halloween costume contest.  We have prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.

As a believer in paying it forward, we will also have an Aquathon in Nov. More to follow later but the money will be distributed to 2 very wonderful organizations.  Autism Speaks and Cancer Research (Exact Org. TBD). Both of the organizations have ties to many of our FutureSwim families so I want to do our best to help.  I hope you will plan to have your child attend and help to pay it forward.

See you at the pool!

Practice Starts This Weekend

I am asking everyone to come to the session of their first choice.  I may have to ask you to adjust based the numbers.  Right now Sundays are pretty full and there is room in Sat.

Coach Tim Storsteen will be heading everything today with the help from his wife Angie. Serigy is taking his annual trip to visit his family in Russia/Ukraine. For those of you who know Coach Rob, he will be helping out.

Please give payments made out to FutureSwim to Angie.  If you are paying by cash you can give to Angie and she will mark you down as paid.

For those of you with younger swimmers 3 and 4.  I need to assess your swimmer to see if they are ready for the program.  I would prefer you come Sundaywhen I am there.  Age is not the determining factor, but ability.  I need to see that you child is water safe, unafraid and can keep up with the group.

Girls need to wear a 1 piece suit and boys a jammer style competition style suit.  I would prefer they not wear the board shorts which are a casual style for fun swimming.

All girls and boys with long hair need to wear swim caps.

Your swimmer will need competitive swim fins.  I have some for sale in limited sizes and can order any other sizes needed.  All swimmers, even the youngest need them.   Don't worry if you don't have for now.  The coaches will wait to use them until the majority of swimmers have them.

Remember to join the google group as this program builds the email data base from which I send emails.  Go to www.futureswim.com   It does not require a password if you do it from the FutureSwim website.

Also, if you have not turned in your regisration, please bring your registration with you and give to Angie.  For new people.  Right now, Sat. are available.  I am holding off on Sunday's until we see how things look.

Thank you all very much and we all look forward to seeing you.

Registration

If interested in joining, please email me at lash.cc@gmail.com . We are currently taking swimmers on Saturday's at either time slots.  The 12:30 slot on Sunday is full and 1:30 is close to full. Registration form link is in the following post under Registration heading marked as

It's Time to Start FutureSwim

We have a lot of new swimmers starting and we are excited that you all are ready to swim. The coaches and I met yesterday and I wanted to fill you in on how things will work this weekend.

We are going to be assessing the swimmers this weekend so that we can get them divided into proper lanes. Once we have been doing this for a few weeks it will all flow smoothly. Bear with us as we learn your swimmers and your names and get everyone situated. The assessments may go into next week as some swimmers are out for the holiday weekend.

Equipment/Attire Needed

  • One piece suit for girls
  • Jammer or brief style suits for boys. Board shorts (loose fitting style they were to play in the pool) hamper their swimming
  • Goggles
  • Fins (competitive swimming fins) We have a company we work with who gives us a great price and we can order them It will take about 2 weeks or so. I will bring a fit kit. We can also get goggles so let us know if you need any. Yes, the youngest swimmers need and use the fins the most. This helps them build their strength and confidence.

Swimmers who are just learning their strokes will be in the water with 2 high school coaches. They have all had experience working with these younger swimmers. I will be overseeing their coaching and walking along side the deck instructing your swimmers as well. We also have a few parents also very experienced helping, including Dan Ruehle who many of your children know as he has helped so much in the past and is awesome with the kids.

Our goal is focusing on the technique of swimming because if technique is correct speed will come. Be patient everyone. This is a work in progress and it takes time.

Tuition is due the first of the month. At this time only cash and checks can be accepted. Checks should be made out to FutureSwim.

Please be respectful at Lovett and ask your children to pick up after themselves and leave the pool deck and locker rooms clean. I cherish my relationship with them and greatly appreciate the fact we are swimming there.

See everyone this weekend.

Registration coming soon

This is just a quick note to let you know that FutureSwim registration will be available on the website soon. I will send another email out when it is ready. The plan is to have two, one hour sessions this season. 4:30-5:30 and 5:30-6:30pm on Saturdays and 12:30-1:30 and 1:30 - 2:30pm on Sundays. In addition to Sergiy, I have hired a new coach, Tim Storsteen, who has coached the Marist HS team for 5 years, is a USA Masters Coach and the coach of the Brookwood Hills Summer League team. He substituted on several occasions last year and I am excited to have him on as a full time coach. We wish Emily the best in college and she will be back at Christmas but in her place we will have various High School swimmers, USA swimmers in the water as well as Dan and I helping from the deck with the younger swimmers as in the past.

Sergiy is currently in Russia and the plan is to start either Aug. 25th or Sept. 1st. Those final details will be in the next email, but at least you have an idea.

If you know of anyone who is interested, tell them to go to FutureSwim.com and add their email address and click subscribe. That way they will receive the emails. If spouses also want to receive the emails they need to subscribe separately.

See you all soon.

Holiday Practice Update

To keep things simple and as unconfusing as possible, No swimming until Jan. 7th. The pool is closed until after the holidays. I am working on make up days with the school and would like your thoughts. The Varsity team practices until about 6:00 everyday. We could do 6-7 during the week. Or if we wait until Varsity swimming is complete Feb. 15th we could go earlier around 4:30/5:00.

I am putting together a schedule. I know it always makes it difficult to ask but I do like to schedule to accommodate the majority. So let me know you thoughts. If any time would work just reply back can do any. If a certain day at the times I mentioned are out then tell me those days are out. I will allow anyone to come to any make up time or all of them. Even if you swim Sundays only and need to make up 3 you are still welcome to attend all of the make up days. Or if you want to make up your days on Sat. just let me know.

Our first practice in Jan. will be Sat. Jan. 7th. There are still 8 practices in Jan so no loss of days for the month.

We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. Here's to a safe, healthy and very Happy New Year!

Chris, Sergiy and Emily

Pump Broken!

The pump in the Lovett pool is broken and being repaired/replaced.  They had to lower the water level significantly in order to fix the pool and I just got an email from the coach that the water level will not be high enough to hold practice.  Lovett has closed the pool until Monday.  SO, No swimming at all this weekend Nov. 26 or 27 (Sat. and Sun.)

I will find some make up time for this inconvenience.

The next practice will be the weekend of Dec. 3 & 4.

I should be able to adjust the schedule for practice during the Christmas holiday to during the week to account for Christmas and New Year Holidays.

If you need me you can reach me at 404-583-9509.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Chris, Sergiy and Emily

This Holiday Weekend

Hi Everyone:
We will NOT have practice this Saturday Sept. 3. We will have practice on Sunday Sept. 4th. Oct. has 2 extra days that we do not charge you for so that we can use them as make up days for holidays or unexpected cancellations.

If you Swim Sat's only, then if you are able you can come Sunday.

For those joining in Sept. please come Sunday at 12:30.

Go to our website for directions to the pool, under Practice Facility.

If you need to contact me do so by my cell phone 404-583-9509. I will not have my computer until Sunday so I can't respond to any emails until Sunday.

Start of practice

Hi Everyone:

As I sit watching Nationals (USA swimming's biggest swim meet) Swim Meet I am excited for what is yet to come for all the swimmers on FutureSwim. Tomorrow starts the first day of our season. I look forward to meeting all the new swimmers.

For those of you joining later please send your registration 2 weeks prior to your start date.

Our website is up and running. Go to www.futureswim.com  All emails sent out, will be posted on the website. The registration form is posted under the "blog archive" on the far right side. The directions to Lovett are also found under the tab  "Practice Facility". For your convenience here is the direct link.   http://www.futureswim.com/p/practice-facility.html

Here is the bad news I found out late today, Lovett did not authorize the Wed. practice day.  The reason for this is that this is a very busy time on the Lovett campus during football season. The AD is very concerned about traffic and parking. This is not a permanent no and  I hope to change his mind with more accurate information.  Once I really know who all will be coming I want to present to him the real number of cars we have coming to FutureSwim and hopefully show we will not impact parking or traffic negatively.  So I'll of course let you know if there is any change.  I apologize that this is late getting you the decision, but all my conversations so far with the Aquatics Director have been positive for Wed. happening.  I am very pleased that the Sat. and Sun. times will continue as planned. Please contact me if you need to discuss options or let me know what you plan to do.  Go with Sat. and Sun or switch to one day. Luckily,  this change didn't affect too many, but for those of you that it does let me know.

The equipment needed for your swimmer is a suit, (board shorts for boys not ideal but will be accepted until you can get some jammers, one piece suit for girls) goggles, competitive swim fins, swim caps for girls and boys with long hair and should be brought to every practice.  The school has kickboards that we use.  If you have any questions or don't have an item for this weekend, we will work around it.  We will post pictures of fin styles and suit style pictures and places they can be purchased. We should have this on the website in the next couple of days.

See you all soon!

Registration

Hi Everyone:

I have had both email and internet issues for a few days that I happily have fixed. Including a long term problem. I was able to respond via a remote computer to a few of you and have spent the last couple of hours hopefully responding to everyone else.

The first practice will be Aug. 6th Sat. (Not starting on Wed.3rd). Still waiting for final confirmation from Lovett on Wed. but initially all sounds fine.

Please fill out the registration form and mail to me ASAP. I need your forms to purchase insurance and the information on your children that I need for each is on the form. It will take me some time so the sooner the better. Your children can't get in the pool without coverage.

Thanks,
Chris Lash
